It's a cold morning at the farmette (8C), but it's supposed to warm up to 18C.

We really pulled out the stops this week, with a big election win for Sandy on Monday followed by a scrumptious and extremely fun visit to Elora with dear friends.

Sandy, Debbie, Lyn, me, Kelli and Carolyn. Another key member of the Vote Sandy team, Dora-Lynn, had a cold and couldn't attend.

First, the municipal election. The team that helped her during the campaign gathered at Sandy's to wait for the results. Sandy had appetizers and libations ready for all. We were not disappointed by the food, the company or the outcome.

Grey Highlands doesn't have wards, so she was competing for one of five council seats against 13 (!) other contenders. I'm happy to report that she garnered the second highest number of votes out of the 14. Yippeee! Now the hard work begins.

But not before a wee celebration that close friends had organized months ago. On Thursday, we went sightseeing in Elora then checked into the Ayreshire, a beautiful old hotel pretty much in the middle of town.

The shops were all festooned with papier maché goblins ahead of Halloween on Saturday. Like this one.

After a hard afternoon of shopping (whew), we went back to our very well-appointed room to get ready for dinner. Alanis Morrissette, Sarah McLachlan and whole host of other Canadian singers on Spotify provided the backdrop to our catching-up time.

Dinner was at Foxy's, conveniently located down the stairs from our room.

The food was spectacular, with octopus and sea bass mains and the most heavenly mushroom side. Sandy had an exotic olive oil gelato for dessert which we all sampled. Yum.

Appetites satisfied, we climbed the stairs and played a couple of rousing games of euchre. How Canadian are we? Lots of laughing, teasing and reminiscing ensued.

We were early to bed (10 p.m.) and early to rise (7 a.m.) on Friday. After a hearty breakfast downtown, Sandy and I made it to the farmette by 10 a.m. We all had work to do.

As always, we had a terrific visit. So great to spend time with longtime friends. Until next week.

Gratuitous cat photo courtesy of Fred, who needed my lap just before I got up to write this post. He's worth the extra few minutes of cuddling, don't you think?
