It's a grey day in Grey County. We might, finally be getting snow today. Had to happen some time. Friends in Alberta and Saskatchewan are currently buried in the white stuff.
Yesterday, we finally had our Markdale Ladies Ruby Jubilee Bonspiel. Sister Sandy and I have been curling at the club for a few years. It's smack dab in the middle between her place in Feversham and the farmette in Durham.
After months of planning and preparation, the event was a big hit. Tons of volunteers on numerous committees worked hard to make the day for 64 women curlers from Mississauga to Stayner and many places in between.

I put on my old communications hat to help out with creating a logo, writing, media relations and photography. Kind of like riding a bicycle, after 11 years out of the saddle.

Sandy was the skip (basically called the shots) on one of the teams. Here she is showing off her amazing form.

While her team came in fourth of the eight that competed in her time slot, they won the best-dressed category with their spanky costumes.
They called themselves the Curling Gems, and it seemed appropriate. Hazel (second from right) was the designer. Leslie Ann (left) and Paulette (right) were the other two team members.
It was an exhausting, but rewarding day. Many of us were at the club very early, and stayed late. That's okay. There was excellent food, a raffle, a silent auction and, of course great curling. The decorations were gorgeous and detailed. Everyone had fun.

One of the ladies from another team said that they'll have to up their game for any bonspiels they put on. Absolutely.
While I was a bit reluctant to volunteer in the first place (trying to NOT do the thing that I did for 30 years), I'm glad I helped out. I'm not done yet. There's a cheque presentation tomorrow because some of the funds raised at the event are going to the Women's Centre Grey Bruce, which provides support for women, youth and children who experience violence.
Until next week.
Gratuitous cat photo courtesy of Bea, who we just found out probably has cancer. The vet said that we should just watch over her and make the rest of her life comfortable. For now, as a 16 year old, she's in great shape - still able to jump two and a half times her height - and you wouldn't know.
