Checking out the classics

It's a rainy, grey day in Grey County. Unlike yesterday, when the sun shone and we toddled over to Hanover to check out the classic car show that Smitty's Furniture was holding. It's their 75th anniversary this year, and they invited all the car buffs to bring their beauties to the parking lot.

It was an amazing display, with everything from an early 20th century Model A Ford to an extremely cool red 2013 Corvette. And everything in between.

The most unusual vehicle was a 1939 LaSalle hearse. I chatted with the owner, who told me it took nearly ten years (from 1999 to 2009) to refurbish the old body carrier to its former glory. And glorious it is.

Meticulous wood work, the widest white wall tires I've ever seen and a slick platform that could be loaded from either side or the back.

There was also a 1938 Dodge pickup truck from Oakville that was still in the family of the original owners and they had the photograph to prove it.

Cool.

A wee tiny 1976 camping trailer captured everyone's attention - especially the kids because it was basically kid sized. The lady who owns it said her husband rebuilt it from scratch and that the two of them had travelled to nearly every province in the country with it. She even had a collection of pins to prove it. The only exceptions were PEI and the Yukon, and they're still on the list.

The car show was a hit, and the owners were full of pride at having these wheeled classics. After eating a hamburger provided by the local service club (donations only), Rob and I came home sufficiently satisfied with our morning adventure.
