Pretty in Pink

It's a grey day again in Grey County. Quite a bit warmer than it has been recently.

Right now, it's a balmy -3C going up to a roasting 0C!

On Monday, we celebrated our annual women's bonspiel at the club in Markdale.

Sister Sandy is a co co-ordinator for the league. I helped out with early set up and did a bit of cubby photography through the day. Here she is (above right) with her partner organizer Lori in their finery. The theme was Pretty in Pink, and Sandy blasted the tunes from the movie all day from her portable player.

Everyone was encouraged to dress up. Witness Sherry (l), who was on my team, and Kathy. Both are big fans of costumes and love a good party. Right?

We played two, four-end games and settled in for a ginormous pot luck lunch. We had meatballs and appetizers and salads and pinwheel sammies and tonnes of delicious desserts. Amazing how there's lots of variety and things work out with absolutely no planning. Just folks bringing their favourite party dishes. YUM.

But back to the curling. We actually did curl.

And, miracle of miracles, our team won! By a skinny 1/2 a point.

We started VERY slowly in both games. In fact, we were down by five points in the first end of the first game and managed to squeak out the win by the fourth end.

Denise skipped, Sherry was second, Barb played lead, and I was the third. Fun? Yepper.

Sandy and Lori arranged for wonderful prizes from local businesses, including these beautiful pink bouquets with tulips, dahlias, chrysanthemums and carnations from Markdale Flowers.

With all the horrible things going on in the world, it's important to get together with friends and family to be silly, eat well, get some exercise, visit with one another and celebrate. So grateful for the opportunity. Until next week.

Gratuitous cat photo courtesy of Calvin, who instantly took to the cardboard box I cadged for the overflow of books destined for the library sale. Bea has also taken a liking to it, especially since we put it on its side under the table. I'm not sure if I'll ever be allowed to pack it.
