Summer road trip

It's a steamy one already at the farmette. I was out watering the baskets and pots, and there's also an army of mosquitoes—aerial snipers—that attacked me the whole time. Cripes. Anyhow. I'm not going to complain. The sun is shining and the farmette house is air conditioned. So we're good.

Yesterday, because we knew it was going to be a sauna, we went early to the Artists on the River event in Paisley, which is about 40 minutes from here.

It was fantastic. Really good quality paintings, wooden crafts, ceramics, jewelry, knits and wovens. I was in a buying mood after selling a few farmette items that were gathering dust, so I got something from nearly everyone!

Paisley is at the confluence of the Saugeen and the Teeswater. The Saugeen is way wider here than in Durham, as you can see behind me.

I had a really good chinwag with Anne Grieve, from Chesley, who was selling socks and woven towels. She also does basketry and her husband (in the background) was clipping a bonsai cedar. Clever pair!

We chatted about yarn, and how we have loads and loads of skeins leftover from projects or generously given to us by well-meaning friends.

I wound up buying a dish towel from her, because my current batch is looking a bit tired.

Here's my whole haul. The wee paintings of the flowery Highland hairy coos and the crazy cow were done by Natalie whose website is www.Liliscreations.ca, from Guelph. She said she really likes to paint detailed art and she loves creating these miniatures. As you can see, she also does landscapes, birds, flowers and many other animals. Not only do the cool little easels come with the paintings, we also got a magic bag (with the ferns), hand painted by the artist, to put them in. Nice, eh?

I also got a tea bag holder (green with dragonflies) and a pair of funky earrings from other artists along the way.

The number of talented people in the general vicinity is astonishing. And the location was just right—breezy and cool by the river on a hot, sunny day. So glad we were able to take advantage of the weather, the company and the goodies. Until next week.

Gratuitous cat photo courtesy of Fred, who is in love with his basket and spends most of the day relaxing in it.
