Wee shop away from the farmette

It's a dull, cold day at the farmette. We're bracing for the first snowfall of the season. Had to happen.

Yesterday, we decided to take a trip down to Blyth. Rob was looking kinda raggedy in the leather coat we bought at the Old Mill store about the same time as we moved up here, so it was time for a refresh.

The day was gorgeous, although chilly. Perfect for a road trip. As you can see in the sky above the store.

Rob's not a shopper. He's a buyer. As he has repeatedly told me over 30+ years. Which is why it was fortunate that the very first coat I looked at and liked was the one we bought!

It fit him perfectly. The right length (just below the bum). A zip-out liner. Not too heavy, but warm enough for those frigid days of winter in Grey County. Its colour also has a chi-chi name: Caviar Brown, dahling.

Wilma's not too sure what's going on here. Looking a bit wary on her cat castle. That's okay. She's had her breakfast and will, no doubt be snoozing shortly.

The Old Mill is a bit old-school retail wise. Huge, rambling, with enough inventory to fill several of the oversized transport trucks that rumble along highway 4, which is where it's located. Just south of town.

It's actually two stores with one that contains the men's section and the discount second floor (the Loft). Ladies' coats, clothes, shoes, hats and boots and just about anything else you can think of, take up the front store.

While it's not cheap, by any stretch, the quality of the products is good, and the 50-year-old business has kept up with the times by having an online shop.

After a quick bite to eat at the Blyth Inn (an old fashioned pub on Main Street), we chugged home in time for a nap. Then we tuned in the two semi-final CFL playoff games. Which were corkers, gotta say. Looking forward to the Grey Cup next weekend when Montreal and Saskatchewan will butt heads. Literally. Until next week.

Gratuitous cat photo courtesy of four of our five feline family. They just love it when it's time to turn on the fireplace. (L to R: Fred, Bea, Wilma and Calvin)
