Autumn Leaves Studio Tour

It's a grey day in Grey County. We're celebrating Thanksgiving over at the Thorntons later today. Can't wait.

Last Sunday, Rob and I hit the road in our new hybrid CRV to visit some of the talented artists who live near us.

Here's Richard Mund. He's a wonderful potter who lives on the edge of Neustadt, a wee village just 20 minutes from the farmette. His studio is in the basement of his lovely house. I've picked up several treasures from him over the years.

He's very welcoming, and chatted with us for a good 1/2 hour - even took us into his back room to show the latest colours he's been using.

After nearly three decades in the business, he's still like a kid when he talks about his craft. Gotta love the enthusiasm.

This is some of his finished work. Nice, eh?

Earlier in the day, I travelled north to Berkeley, where Kate Civiero has

her Infinite Glassworks operation. She makes beautiful pieces - from tumblers and decanters to decorations.

Here's the wee bird I bought while I was there. She told me she really enjoys doing the little touches - like the tail and wing - on her decorations.

We also visited Forty Hills Forge just outside Neustadt. Brian Clowes has a fantastic blacksmithing operation where he can pretty much make anything out of metal. His wife Sharilyn is a talented potter and makes lots of goodies from clay. He also graciously helped his artist friend Mike Pollard display his abstract paintings and birdhouses. We actually bought an original piece from him which I forgot to photograph before I took it in for framing. Will post in a couple of weeks.

Anyhow. On this Thanksgiving weekend, I'm feeling very grateful for the amazing talent we have in our community. Also looking forward to a scrumptious meal and having a good visit with friends and rellies later on. Until next week.
