Autumn splendour

It's a warm, though overcast day at the farmette. Summer seems to be clinging on, with temperatures over the past week in the mid to high 20s.

The flowers and grasses have definitely decided it's time for fall, so here are a few shots from around the yard to prove it.

The burning bush we planted a few years ago and then moved during the front bed renovation in 2022 is really showing its colour.

The panicle hydrangea I planted last year have done their seasonal change from snow white to pink and the big blousy Annabelle hydrangea are slowly drying up for that lovely winter interest.

Every year, I pick a few of these beauties and let them desiccate for a bouquet that we can enjoy inside the farmette house until next year.

I'm very pleased with the chrysanthemums I got from a local sale and planted last fall for the first time in the front bed. Three large, robust plants came back and are giving us quite the yellow show just now.

Finally, the ornamental grasses that sister Sandy gave me a few years ago are now tasseling out.

They look fantastic beside the redbud tree and the oat grass I inherited from my friend Pat.

Amazing how the plants we have not only bring us visual joy, they can trigger memories of the people, places and times that we acquired them.

Until next week. Gratuitous cat photo courtesy of Freddie, who definitely has the cutest pink nose on the planet.
