It's a snowy day at the farmette. I almost forgot to write this post because I had so many things to do. Including shoveling the sidewalk. Again. We've had about a foot and a half since Thursday.
Sandy and Brian hosted a fantastic party on Friday night with about 20 friends and neighbours. Some of the women from our curling club came and brought their husbands.

Here are Sandy (l) and Brian (r) regaling guests with a juicy story about some adventure that's happening on the Thornton ranch, no doubt.
There was mulled cider, fancy cocktails and wonderful appetizers. We would have had these cute little skewered charcuterie things that we worked on in the afternoon, but being distracted, neither of us remembered they were in the fridge in the garage! Definitely getting older and forgetful. That's okay. The family chowed down on them the next day.
We all got to know each other a bit better with a game in which name tags of Christmas characters are fixed to people's backs. The guests had to ask other people questions about 'who they are'. Obviously, Santa, Mrs. Claus, the Grinch and the three ghosts from A Christmas Carol were among the group, as was John McLean, because Brian insisted that Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Ha. Ha.
It was a fantastic start to the festive season, all in all and everyone had a scrumptious time.

Almost as good was the trek Sandy and I made through the back 50 the next day to the cabin where they will be making maple syrup in March. As you can see, lots of firewood is stacked ready for the big boil down, and the lines are ready to carry their liquid

cargo when the sap starts running.
Brian worked like a fiend in the fall to put an addition on the cabin so the boiler would be under permanent cover. They had to use tarps until now.
Looks good, eh?

The hike was a treat. Sunny, not too cold and no wind to make you tear up and drill holes in your forehead. The dogs appreciated it, as you can see. Marley's in the teal coat. She's aging as well, but still up for a good long hike in the woods. The others are Calli (l) and Sadie (r).
Sandy's got their full attention. Mostly because she has treats in her pockets.
So, another terrific weekend at the Thorntons is in the books. Hoping everyone is safe, healthy and happy as we roll into the festive season. Until next week.
Gratuitous cat photo courtesy of Hobbes, who was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and needs medication twice a day. He's the same age as Marley but keeps trucking along (a bit more slowly) like her.
