Fall fair frenzy near the farmette

It's a cool fall day at the farmette. The past week has been unusually cool. Especially in the mornings with single digits (5,6,7C).
According to my avian socials, the hummingbirds are fueling up for their long migrations. We've noticed many at our feeder.
That's why Rob brushed off the digital Nikon camera we've had for donkeys, put on the super zoom lens, and snapped off a whack of photos in hopes of catching one in mid-flight. Which he did. Pretty cool, eh?
It was more than cool yesterday when we made our way over to Mildmay for their fall fair. Only a half-hour from the farmette, and it was pretty busy, for a wee town.

There were tonnes of stunning quilts, baked goods, flowers, fruits, veggies, preserves and crafts on display. Plus a good assortment of 4-H livestock exhibitors.

As you can see, the clouds were broody, and the temperature was not exactly summery. But there was lots of enthusiasm in the show ring.

Some of the animals showed a bit too much, ahem, enthusiasm. This poor girl could not get her Highland calf under control. The 'hairy coo' was not for co-operating. It took a good five minutes before she was finally convinced she should exit stage left.
Gotta love the dedication of the clubs, their leaders and the volunteers who make it all happen.
The fair had everything.

There was even a display of farm equipment. I think Rob had a bit of John Deere tractor envy in this shot.
All in all, despite the howling cold wind, we had a blast. Loving the fall fair season. Until next week.
