Farmette reverie

It's Easter, 2025. How'd that happen? Nearly 13 years ago, Rob and I moved up to the farmette in 2012. Feels like yesterday. This year, the peepers (frogs) are in their full-throated glory, just like the first week we were here.

I thought I'd fill everyone in on what we've been up to and what we have planned for the season.

We finally got the gravel scraped off the front lawn from last winter's snowblowing extravaganza. The young guys had what looked like a huge hand-held motorized brush that they pulled across the expanse and deposited the gravel on the driveway. Took them a few hours, but it's much, much better now. They also removed the huge branches that had fallen due to all the heavy snow.

We're getting the same guys to edge and mulch the front bed. This picture was taken about three years ago, when it was new and pristine. It's not nearly as pretty right now. But it will be when they're done.

We're also getting the house, which is 160 years old this year, freshened up with a lick of paint on the trim and other bits and bobs around the perimeter.

I'm plotting and planning my vegetable garden. We're going to get Bill Markle, our handy handyman, to build some raised beds this year. I'm hoping it'll cut down on my weeding time.

He'll also tear down the lattice on the west side of the house.

It's completely rotten and not worth either painting or replacing. There's a big, beautiful flower bed there that demarcates the front from the back yard, anyway.

We've had every kind of weather over the past couple of weeks. From pounding rain to howling winds to snow (!) But it's April and it's Grey County, so that's to be expected.

We're going over later today to celebrate Easter with the Thorntons. Can't wait to see everyone again. Until next week.
