Road trip from the farmette

It's a hazy, cool day so far at the farmette. Supposed to get to 22C. so it's finally summer. Friday was the perfect day for a motor car ride, so that's what we did, and set off for Southampton on the shore of Lake Huron.
Our 35-year-old Mazda Miata started up like it was new, and ran like that, too. Can't exactly say the same for the driver and the passenger. We were, ahem, a bit creaky climbing in and out of our sporty sports car. But it was soooo worth it. Perfect temperature. Lovely breeze. Not too much traffic. Bliss.

We took off at about 11:00 a.m. and pulled up at Walker House right at noon for lunch. The rolling countryside of Grey and Bruce Counties is in its finest spring fettle, with crops springing out of vast fields and beef cows (mostly wee black Angus and gigantic white Charolais) munching away in the meadows.
Rob munched on some local beef (dip) while I had a lovely Greek salad and garlic cheese bread. Yum. This restaurant has been around for decades and continues to do a terrific job of feeding locals and tourists alike.

The lake was calm, though a bit cool, so there weren't many folks on the beach.
The huge (25x50 foot) Canadian flag right at the end of High Street was a bit droopy with the lack of wind, but impressive nevertheless. The community got together and funded its construction in 1993, long before Trump and his disgusting threats. The pole it flies from is an astonishing 135 feet tall. Long may she wave.
I got the travel bug on our mini-vacation to Niagara-on-the-Lake a couple of weeks ago, so we've resolved to get out for a "tootle" a few more times over the summer. Just short jaunts around the beautiful landscapes of Grey and Bruce Counties. Long enough to really enjoy and short enough to get home to feed the beasts. Here's to more adventures through the summer. Until next week.
Gratuitous cat photo courtesy of Hobbes, who likes to make sure I don't bugger off while he's napping. Early in the morning, usually, which is why I'm looking a bit rumpled.
