Visiting the Durham Art Gallery

It's a snowy day at the farmette. We're under yet another snow squall watch, after a few days of warmer temperatures and a massive melt.
Yesterday, I took advantage of the half-decent weather and drove the short distance to our local art gallery. Hadn't been in a couple of years (!), so I thought it was time to catch up.

The current exhibition is called Grey Areas, and it highlights local talent. Of which there is plenty.

Kim Atlin is a Toronto based artist who painted this one.
I love the horizontal lines of the evening sky juxtaposed with the flowing nature of Nature. She has had exhibitions in Toronto, New York and California, among other places.

Another artist is Sarah Kernohan, who is based in Kitchener. She has a series called Snow Blind, in which she uses various techniques to create images of how the landscape affects and is affected by snow. Appropriate for this winter. She has had shows from Toronto to Buenos Aires.

In the second space at the back, the gallery put on a display of affordable local art as a fundraiser.
One of the piece's style looked very familiar. Sure enough, the Saxophone Players painting (lower left) was created by Daciana Desi Sulean, who is originally from Transylvania. I have another of her pieces at home (right). I met her a few years ago at an arts and crafts show over in Hanover.

I am impressed by her use of colour and the intricate patterns she creates.
There are plenty of different pieces in many different media at the gallery right now, but only until next weekend. We are so fortunate to have so many skilled artists working in the area. Until next week.
