Girls' weekend

It's a beautiful, cold day at the farmette.

We had our girls weekend in Montreal, and boy was it ever a doozy.

Here we are recreating a photo we did eight years ago (!) the last time we were in that city. It's a bit fuzzy, because sister Sandy was acting up, per usual.

Our friends Karen Earl (right) and Leanne Summer get together with us every year (or we try anyway).

Sandy and I drove, and we stopped in Ottawa on the Thursday before the weekend. We had a scrumptious dinner at Starlings in the Byward Market (highly recommend) and visited the National Gallery on Friday morning.

I especially liked the Indigenous rooms where sculptures, masks, paintings and wall hangings from all over the country are on display. We also took in the European rooms. The Gallery is enormous, and well worth the visit.

On the way out, we couldn't resist getting a photo of the gigantic spider that graces the front court yard. It's by Louise Bourgeois and it's a 33 foot tall female called Maman. She has marble eggs enclosed in her under side! Cool eh?

In Montreal, we rented an apartment in the old port section of the city. Saturday, we clocked 10 kilometres of walking around the waterfront and up and down St. Catherine's Street. Here's a photo of the big ferris wheel at the port. Karen's a crack photographer, and captured this perfect beauty, with the gorgeous fall colours and watery reflection.

We laughed and ate and drank and visited and laughed some more. Gotta love spending time in a fantastic city with good friends. So grateful for these ladies. Until next week.

Gratuitous cat photo courtesy of Calvin, who was just a wee kitten when we adopted him from the Guelph Humane Society almost exactly six years ago. He's still got that "love you" face.
