Happy anniversary farmette!

It's a sunny, lovely spring day at the farmette. A bit cool, but supposed to get to 16C. Yay.

Rob reminded me this morning that on this day in 2012, we made the big move from Guelph. Fourteen years ago. Wow. A LOT of water under the bridge, not to mention renovations, upgrades, tree felling and planting, garden adventures and much more over the years.

We had Mike the Mover bring all the big stuff, and between my sister Barb's truck and our Jeep, we managed the littles, including Nick, Nora, Bea and Lily, our feline family at the time. Barb was a HUGE help. Miss her.

Rob had come up a week earlier to tidy, clean and make ready for the big day. I was still working at the ministry (of agriculture and food) at the time.

One of the main reasons we moved was for me to get some land to plant gardens. Our beautiful home in Guelph had a postage-stamp yard that I'd re-planted about five times over the course of 16 years. I really wanted sunflowers. So, I've grown them, and veggies and flowers and bushes, oh, my.

We renovated a lot in the early years. The 150-year-old house hadn't seen upgrades in a few decades. Our bedroom and the main floor bathroom were first, but the biggest was the sun room in 2015. It was in really rough shape and tiny. It was gutted and expanded, as you can see. Now, we practically live there year-round.

We also had the upstairs gutted and re-done a couple of years ago, which I wrote about extensively.

We had new windows installed throughout the house, and the front bed and trim got a facelift, too. Which made a huge difference to our home's look.

Bit by bit, we painted and upgraded almost all the rooms until now, when we're about to have the kitchen refreshed. It's still in good shape overall, just needs the tired wallpaper replaced by a lick of paint, which will also go on the trim, ceiling and doors. We've contracted Kyle, our neighbour, who's a professional painter. Bonus. He's starting in June, and I can't wait to see the results.

So glad we've given the old girl a new lease of life. She'll be standing long after we're gone. Until next week.

Gratuitous cat photo courtesy of Calvin, who was curious about the new birch and larch trees we got yesterday.
