Walking for a cause

It's a sunny though cool day at the farmette. Only 12C now going to 19C.
Fall was definitely in the air yesterday morning, as I set off for Owen Sound. I had to turn back and get my 'bulky' sweatshirt before I made the 40 minute drive.
About 50 people showed up in their sweats and runners to make the trek around Kelso Beach at Nawash Park. Weird that, in 14 years, Rob and I have never been to this fabulous place.
We walkers were raising funds for the Home and Community Support Service of Grey-Bruce, which helps keep older and disabled people in their own homes with many services and programs.
My team, the Heart and Sole team, pictured above, are great ladies. Julie, in the grey shirt, manages the Meals on Wheels program, which I volunteer for here in Durham. I also help with driving people to their medical appointments and garden at the day away program for seniors in Markdale.

While it started off cool, the sun warmed us up on our 2.5 kilometre circuit which went through the park, onto the street and back again. I was having so much fun, the team convinced me to go an extra couple of kilometres when they repeated the route.

The views were stunning along the trail. This is the Pottawatomi River which flows into Georgian Bay, and this is the bridge from which I took the photo.

We got lots of freebies - a
t-shirt, a flag, some buttons, a yummy hamburger lunch courtesy of the Kiwanis folks and live music to keep us entertained.
Before things got started, we even got to stretch and warm up with a T Rex!
All in all, it was a great day. I got some good exercise, raised some money and caught up with the folks I usually only correspond with on e-mail. Thanks so much to all my friends and family who made their contributions to this great cause: helping people stay active, engaged and in the homes they love. Until next week.
