Cleanup at the farmette

It's a sunny day today. That's two days in a row. Hallelujah. We haven't had many of these over the winter.

The craziness continues south of the border. Trump has now exempted his friends/billionaires in the tech. industry from punishing tariffs on Chinese made products. Typical. Anyhow.

Yesterday, we continued spring cleanup around the property and there was a lot to do. The heavy snow and winds over the winter really took down tonnes of branches from our big mature trees.

Since we're not as, ahem, young as we used to be, we bought a grabber thingy (technical term) so we don't have to bend over quite so much to get at the branches. Here's Rob wielding the new, $20 piece of equipment. Handy.

The gravel you see on the lawn will hopefully be raked up by a landscaper we hired from Elmwood, a wee community north of Hanover. His name is Maxx and he owns Deep Roots Property Care. Nice guy.

Poor Larry (our helpful neighbour) felt so bad about the rocky carnage on our front lawn. He's been by twice and assured us that the snowblowing won't include rock throwing this coming winter.

Yesterday was also the first day I've been able to hang my laundry out on the line. Gotta love the scent that everything retains after it's been flapping in the fresh air. As you can see, the lawn and the maples have yet to green up. It'll come.

Rob took this photo of the 'meadow'. It's a bit of land on the west side that we've let go au natural, although I have planted clumps of tulips here and there and few lilies that needed to be thinned from my beds.

This little guy pushed

up through craploads of litter and made it to the sunlight to bloom early! Gotta love the determination of some of these wee beauties.

We were all so happy to feel the warm sunshine and be outside all day.

Especially Hobbes, who enjoys a good loll on the deck. His big stretch is the gratuitous cat photo for today.

We have lots more to do to get the property in tip top shape. It's hard work, but with the help of a good local business, our own sweat and the handy grabber thingy, the farmette will be shining again for the summer. Until next week.
